What are the 10 foods you must have in your refrigerator and/or your kitchen cabinet?
Submitted by Carol.
I'm so pathetically excited to answer this one because I love food (maybe a bit too much).
1. Fruit. Apples, bananas, and grapes to snack on, blueberries and acai in the freezer, and whatever else looked good at the grocery store.
2. Soy milk.
3. Egg whites. Debating whether or not I should start eating the yolks again. But I love making omelets.
4. Goat cheese to spread on crackers or put in said omelets. Feta cheese is good too.
5. Frozen shrimp. Usually I thaw it out and grill it with some veggies and rice, but last night I cooked some in pesto and ate them with linguine. Mmm.
6. Chicken that I've already grilled in the fridge. So I can heat it up when I'm too lazy to cook, or I can throw some into a bowl of pasta.
7. Whole wheat, uncooked pasta. I used to be what nutritionists called "carbohydrate addicted" when Atkins got big. No joke. I'm not anymore, but I still love my carbs.
8. Any or all of the following veggies: Tomatoes, artichokes, avocados, broccoli, bell peppers, zucchini. I love those packs of assorted vegetables you can buy at Wholes Foods or Trader Joe's.
9. Hummus and pita bread. My go-to snack. Right now my favorite kind of hummus is the kalamata-olive-and-artichoke variety they carry at Henry's.
10. Carob-covered peanuts. Carob is an alternative to chocolate (and is usually sugar-free), and it's a bit of an acquired taste, but it is delicious. I haven't had it in awhile, but a small organic grocery store near my dorm last year had one of those candy store dispensers of carob-covered peanuts, and I'd eat a few handfuls for dessert almost everyday. Man, now I'm craving it!
Honorary Mention: Olive oil. I don't know if that counts as a "food" or not, but I looked at someone else's answer to this question and realized that it should be in my list. Almost every time I cook, I reach for olive oil. My roommates were shocked by how quickly I can go through a bottle of it.
What clothing item do you wish could be banned?
Submitted by Mike E.
The ONLY clothing item I would ban would be those metallic leggings from American Apparel! Hideous.
What story from your wild-and-crazy youth would nobody believe about you today?
I'm in the midst of my wild-and-crazy youth. Ask me again in 10 years.
After all the recent season and series finales, what are you watching on TV these days?
I haven't answered a QotD in such a long time, but I want to answer this one because I've been watching a lot of TV lately. Drumroll, please...
So You Think You Can Dance (the new season - and of course I'm voting for my favorite couples)
24 (the first season on A&E, the third season on WGN, and the fourth season on KTLA)
movies on TCM like Bringing Up Baby, The Awful Truth, Gilda, and The Big Knife
anything on the Food Network (which I don't get in New York!)
...and last night I watched Babel. But I Netflixed that one.
My parents have DVR, so I record everything, and then I watch it that night when I get home from the gym at 9 or 10!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
it was just a dream.
i find you give delight to me.
what kind of life are you living?
how are you existing?
Ugh, they're awful! There was a girl in my AmLit recitation who would wear them, in electric blue, almost every... read more
